Tunisia vacation rentals for El Jem Festival

A stunning meeting of musical genius is only part of what makes the El Jem Festival such an amazing event to visit from Tunisia vacation rentals. Perhaps the most famous performer of the festival is the venue, the El Jem Coliseum.

El Jem is just inland on eastern side of Tunisia. Not far south of the popular resort area, Sousse, El Jem never far. Normally a quiet village, El Jem comes alive at the end of July to early August for a celebration of symphonic music, both local and international.

The El Jem International Symphonic Festival is an annual event that began in 1985 as a celebration of Arabic music and Tunisian heritage. The premise today remains the same, but happily incorporates a broader range of music from further a field.

While the symphonic melodies are intoxicating, some visitors come solely for the venue. The El Jem Festival is held at the El Jem Coliseum. The rest of El Jem’s treasures may be buried under the sand still, but its greatest treasure rises 35 metres from the earth, is 148 metres long and 122 metres wide.

The Coliseum is the second in size only to that of Rome’s, but El Jem’s Coliseum is certainly in better repair. The structure took eight years to build, beginning in 230 and finally ending in 238 when its benefactor committed suicide after trying to overtake Rome.

This huge coliseum seats an estimated 30,000 people. Visitors come from near and far today to enjoy Tunisia vacation rentals and listen to the orchestra illuminated by the glow of dancing candle light. The spectacle is truly amazing, a lifetime memory.
