Golf holidays in Portugal will take you to some of the most beautiful regions of the country. Algarve golf holidays have a great reputation for fabulous courses, but it's not just the Algarve that has good golf in Portugal. When you book villa holidays you can start in the north at the Porto golf courses, and work your way south to Lisbon golf courses.

From Lisbon you can then finish up with some Algarve golf along the coast of the tumbling Atlantic Ocean – all available to you by renting Algarve villas with VillasPeople.com. VillasPeople.com also hosts other villas in Portugal if you seek golf courses near Porto or Lisbon.

Porto golf courses

The Porto region of Portugal makes up the northwest corner of the country bound by the Atlantic Ocean. Porto golf courses provide brilliant panoramas of the coastline and you will often find yourself teeing off by famous Port vineyards.

Amarante Golf Course is on the River Tamega and is a challenging course with well kept greens. Find the perfect destination to walk the fairways by browsing our extensive database to find the perfect Algarve villas for you.

Skeffington Cup

Miramar is one of Porto’s oldest clubs whilst Quinta da Barca is a 9-hole course that is great for all levels. One of the oldest golfing competitions in the world is held each year at Oporto Golf Course, the Skeffington Cup. This course has narrow fairways and undulating greens. It also has a great restaurant and bar featuring the region’s top Port wines.

Algarve golf : San Lorenzo, Quinta do Lago

With so many amazing courses to choose from, Algarve golf is truly ideal. GolfWorld magazine has voted San Lorenzo Golf Course Europe’s third best golf course. It is located near one of Europe’s most exclusive resort areas, Quinta do Lago, where there are some fantastic Algarve villas. Quinta do Lago offers brilliant fairways and fast greens at one of Portugal’s best courses, and is home many times over to the Portuguese Open.

Sir Henry Cotton is the most famous course designer in Algarve. It is no wonder that the Penina Golf Course near Portimao attests to his legendary status. This championship course has you strategising from the first tee. After that it is a pleasurable, though sometimes painful golfing experience.

Victoria Golf Club is a championship 18-hole course set in wetlands offering complicated shots around many water hazards. The greens are said to be particularly taxing. Find fantastic Algarve villas nearest your favourite golf course.

Lisbon golf courses

There are 12 great golf courses in and around Lisbon that are easily accessible from Lisbon villas. The highest concentration is around Estoril where the International Golf Week is held each year. Estoril Golf Club has the Portuguese Open among other international competitions on its list of accolades. Robert Trent Jones out did himself in designing Penha Longa Golf Club. Built around a monastery, this course is beautiful.

Long sloping fairways and pristine greens make golfing here a pleasure. Also by Jones is the Quinta de Marinha near Cascais. There is a great driving range and practice area incorporated. Other noteworthy Lisbon golf courses include Belavista Golf Club, Quinta da Beloura Golf Course and Troia Golf Course.

Algarve golf courses continue to reign supreme in Portugal and with plenty of options of villa holidays in the Algarve for a comfortable stay, it is no wonder so many people flock south for their golf holidays in Portugal. However, keep in mind that Lisbon and Porto golf courses are nothing to turn your nose up at either.
