Frida Kalho and Diego Rivera

Frida Kahlo paintings
Frida was born in Mexico City in 1907 and her tragic life ended in 1954. Although she suffered from polio as a child, during her youth she led an active and colourful life with an ambition to become a doctor. Her life was changed by a bus accident in which she suffered horrific injuries which included a broken spinal column, pelvis, right leg and foot.
During her long and extremely painful convalescence, Frida began to paint with an emphasis on bright colours, creating a unique style, mixing symbolism and surrealism. Apart from her beautiful scenes of Mexican culture, her outstanding self-portraits depict her inner feelings, pain and her great love for Diego Rivera.
The Tree of Hope, Diego on my Mind, What the Water Gave Me, The Love Embrace of the Universe and Self Portrait with Monkey are some of Frida Kahlo’s paintings, now famous across the globe.
Frida Kahlo Museum
The Frida Khalo Museum, better known as La Casa Azul (the Blue House), is situated in Coyoacan, a charming suburb of Mexico City. Its exterior walls are painted in a striking blue colour, hence the name.
Frida lived in this lovely colonial house, which bore witness to various periods of her fascinating life. As you enter the various rooms full of paintings, her personal diary and other objects belonging to Frida and Diego, you will be overwhelmed by the feeling of their presence everywhere.
For anybody coming to Mexico City or staying in Mexican villas nearby, a visit to the Frida Kahlo Museum should be included in their itinerary. Admire her paintings and learn more about her life and also about her famous husband, Diego Rivera.
