Le Beaujolais Nouveau est arrive! The new Beaujolais has arrived! The Beaujolais anticipated release is celebrated from holiday villas in France from Nice and Paris, to Lyon and Avignon and even internationally.

As the clock strikes midnight the new bottles are unveiled and a wine tasting frenzy ensues. All of the wine proprietors stay open late, the restaurants proudly display and serve the new vintage and many towns have a festival commemorating the big day.

Beaujolais Nouveau in the Rhone Alpes

Beaujolais is in the Rhone Alpes region of France. Its largest city is Lyon which holds the Beaujol’ympiades. At midnight there is a fireworks display and live music followed by two days of wine tasting. Sarmentelles Festival in Beaujolais begins in the evening with a torch lit march to the release of the Beaujolais Nouveau.

The Beaujolais release is an entirely French fete that would be the apex of any holiday. Search for French villas in the Rhone Alpes region and get to the heart of the festival.

The fete lasts throughout the weekend celebrating not only the wine, but the region. The city of Tarare’s dedication to the wine's unveiling lasts for five days where it celebrates fine wine and gourmet food. Visit holiday villas in France to witness the occasion first hand.

What is Beaujolais Nouveau?

All of the grapes of the region must be picked by hand. Champagne is the only other region like this. Gamay is the only grape allowed in Beaujolais. Beware of California wines labeled Gamay Beaujolais as California Gamay is not the same.

There are 10 wine growing regions in Beaujolais, but Beaujolais Nouveau can only come from the appellations of Beaujolais and Beaujolais Villages. These wines are meant to be drunk young when the fruits flavours are still bold.

Carbonic maceration is the process of making the Beaujolais vintages. It leaves the fresh fruit flavours without gaining the tannic qualities from the skins. All of these things combine to make Beaujolais Nouveau a fabulous wine with a much anticipated annual release party.
