Notting Hill Carnival & London apartment
Europe’s biggest street party takes place in trendy Notting Hill where you can find a fantastic London apartment. The massive festival has its roots in the traditional Carnival, but its true flavour comes from the Caribbean.
Steel drum bands, calypso, reggae and jazz blare through the streets as the flamboyantly costumed dancers groove to the beats, as you can see it first hand from a London apartment or English country cottages.
Along the five kilometre stretch of Notting Hill the Caribbean invades west London. For a Sunday and Monday in late August, Notting Hill erupts into the biggest street party in Europe. Rivalled only by Carnival in Rio, Londoners take this event seriously and a party in London means absolutely no stopping and no sleeping! You may need to freshen up at your London apartment for day two of this festival that never sleeps.
Community festival
Notting Hill Carnival began as a small festival where London’s Afro-Caribbean denizen could celebrate their culture. From its early days as a small community festival to today as an international party, it is only gaining momentum.
Its theme is very much in keeping with Carnival around the world. There are parades of elaborate costumes and dancers swinging to the music. There are fires lit and free flowing booze. Food stalls litter the street and shops pop up out of nowhere.
There are two main differences to Notting Hill Carnival. One is the date. The Notting Hill Carnival takes place in August rather than before Lent. The second and most distinct difference is the intoxicating Caribbean influence.
The food is tantilising and the costumes reflect the countries of that region and the music. Steel drums incite rhythmic dances and calypso will have your hips gyrating to the alluring fast beats. Notting Hill Carnival is scorching with spicy flavours, and you can see it all when you book a London apartment.
