Cyprus villas & Limassol Wine Festival
Rent Cyprus villas where Limassol is the heart of Cyprus’s biggest wine region. The city pulls out all of the stops in celebrating its best wines while paying homage to Dionysus, the God of wine and to Aphrodite, the Goddess of love and beauty, by letting the wine flow freely and, incidentally, free of charge.
Limassol Festival Cyprus - villas
Almost every year since 1961, nearly 20,000 tourists and Cypriots descend upon Limassol. The wine festival is so significant to Cyprus. Firstly, Cyprus is extremely proud of its sweet wines that have been referred to in literature as old as time. They have even been said to have mysterious healing qualities. Secondly, the ancient inhabitants of Cyprus would charge their glasses in worship of Dionysus, the God of wine, and of Aphrodite, the Goddess of love and beauty. Choose Cyprus villas to see for yourself.
Limassol Municipal Gardens
For about ten days at the beginning of September, Limassol’s Municipal Gardens hosts the big event. The entrance fee is simply the purchase of a souvenir glass or an empty bottle that you’ll need anyway for the wine to be poured in. The larger vineyards are towards the centre, but make your way around the periphery and sample some the most delicious varietals from smaller winemakers.
Tavernas are set up inside the venue and serve brilliant local dishes and the music adds to the festive environment. Make sure you see the dancers attempting to crush the grapes, and you can take part if you wish by booking Cyprus villas.
