Visit Calgary Zoo
Calgary Zoo is the second largest zoo in Canada. It features more than 1,000 animals from various corners of the world. Calgary Zoo is located at about three kilometres east from Calgary’s downtown.
Part of Calgary Zoo’s terrain is on St. Georges Island by the Bow River. Calgary Zoo opened more than 78 years ago and it is evident that its staff does a marvellous job, as they have managed to keep it in tip-top condition. The zoo opens daily from 9:00 am and closes at 6:00 pm.
A day full of fun and knowledge is awaiting both children and grown-ups at Calgary Zoo.
Main attractions at Calgary Zoo
There are several main attractions at Calgary Zoo and the visitor should plan his day so as not to miss any of them. The Destination Africa area includes some magnificent specimens from the African continent like gorillas, lions, giraffes, hippos, monkeys, reptiles, birds, all of them living in a replica of their own habitat.
Another main attraction at Calgary Zoo is the vast area of The Canadian Wilds, home to a great variety of North American mammals & birds. The Botanical Gardens and Conservatory are a delight, with areas as diverse as a rainforest, a tropical garden, an arid garden and a butterfly garden.
Some members and visitors to Calgary Zoo are dedicated to help in the preservation of some endangered species. Best of luck to them in such a difficult but rewarding job!

Calgary Zoo offers various excellent educational programmes for children and families like Our Living Classroom where children learn a great deal about a variety of different species.
