Barbados villas & Crop Over Festival
The Crop Over Festival in Barbados is a celebration of its biggest crop; sugar, and is by far the island’s biggest and loudest celebration that you can witness from Barbados villas. The summer long festival is packed with sweet delicacies, markets, parades, kings and queens, fireworks, laser shows and loads of hot calypso and soca beats.
Five weeks of outrageous fun and festivities taking place conveniently near fabulous Barbados villas is what Crop Over Festival is all about! The whole island gets into this annual extravaganza and you won’t believe some of the costumes!
The Crop Over Festival begins when the last sugar cane is cut and delivered. The ceremonial King and Queen of Crop Over Festival are crowned. Their royal highnesses are chosen by the biggest producer of sugar cane. After that it’s time to head out from Barbados villas as the party gets under way.
Bridgetown Market close to Barbados villas
The party begins in mid-May and runs to mid-August, mostly in Spring Garden, Bridgetown. The Bridgetown Market is a mainstay during Crop Over Festival. In early August the market is filled with handmade crafts and sugar delicacies so sweet and tasty, not to mention totally extravagant.
There are many parades all over the island including the Cart Parade. The islanders decorate carts by theme and parade them through the streets to an appreciative crowd. There is also a party monarch and a pic-o-de-crop monarch calypso competition that is taken very seriously. The finalists duke it out in the National Stadium for the title. After the awards is a very bright and loud laser show featuring awe-inspiring pyrotechnics.
Stay in Barbados villas for Grand Kadooment Day
One of the best events of Crop Over is Grand Kadooment Day in August. Stay in Barbados villas to see that this is a musical costumed parade from the National Stadium to Spring Garden. Awards are given out for the parade including Band of the Year and Design of the Year.
